How to answer serving notice and last working day

Last updated: 11 October 2026

Serving notice means you have resigned and are working out your notice period; your last working day (LWD) is the date it ends.

Forms ask it as: Are you serving notice? What is your last working day?

How forms ask it

  • “Are you serving notice?” as yes or no.
  • A date box for the last working day, often DD/MM/YYYY on Indian forms.
  • A notice-status list, such as serving notice, not serving notice or immediate joiner.

How to answer it

  • Answer yes only after you have resigned.
  • Give the last working day on your resignation acceptance or relieving terms.
  • Write the date in the format the box shows; DD/MM/YYYY puts the day first.
  • If your last working day may change (for example an early release under discussion), give the confirmed date.
